Sasso del Ferro mount (1062m/3484feet) belongs to Varesine Pre-alps , and observes from above Laveno Mombello. It can be reached by cable car: from Laveno center you can reach Poggio Sant’Elsa in few minutes, but also on foot with a track that starts from Cittiglio. It’s possible to park in Via Repubblica, where you find the route signs. Following the signs to Casere, cross arbor and head towards the old part of the city. Once past the fountain, turning left into Via Caprera you will find other signs where the route is immediately challenging.
