The route starts from Curiglia in Val Veddasca, where you can leave your car in several free parking lots in the town. Immediately you enter the pedestrian streets marked by white and red stamps and in half an hour, following the paved road, you go up to Sarona. Before starting the climb make a stop to admire the magnificent panorama with the villages on the opposite side of the Veddasca Valley and a part of Lake Maggiore; then follow the signs indicating the path to Alpone.

Sasso del Ferro mount (1062m/3484feet) belongs to Varesine Pre-alps , and observes from above Laveno Mombello. It can be reached by cable car: from Laveno center you can reach Poggio Sant’Elsa in few minutes, but also on foot with a track that starts from Cittiglio. It’s possible to park in Via Repubblica, where you find the route signs. Following the signs to Casere, cross arbor and head towards the old part of the city. Once past the fountain, turning left into Via Caprera you will find other signs where the route is immediately challenging.
