Valganna - Monte Martica

Distance: 4.6 km • Time: 2 hours • Difficult

The mount Martica dominates the western slope of the Valganna, with the remains of discovered artillery stakes, built within the Northern Frontier. The route starts from the clearing beside the SS233 where it is possible to park ( Saint Gemolo farmhouse) following the signs for the now abandoned Valvassera Mine. The path proceeds up to a picnic area located a few meters from the river, adventurous people can discover the little-known Valvassera Falls, reachable only by a short walk in the river bed. Going on towards Monte Martica, the trail gradually climbs up to a detour. Proceeding to the right, follow the shortest road to reach the top, the direct route hides pitfalls but at the same time it is full of panoramic points. The ascent is demanding and constant and on the way, you meet the eastern blockhouse del Monte. Proceeding instead to the left the path softens while continuing to gradually rise towards the summit. The road runs along the river from the top of the Mount Chiusarella from which you have a panoramic view of the lakes of the province, proceeds towards the Cima Gallina, crosses the remains of the western blockhouse and lands on the top of Monte Martica.
