Located at the northernmost tip of the Province of Varese, Passo Forcora is the starting point for one of the most scenic hikes in the Val Veddasca area. Easily reachable in about 50 minutes from Varese and 20 minutes from Luino, it offers a convenient free parking area where the trail begins.
From the charming chapel at the pass, the route follows an easy gravel road to Monterecchio before continuing along a trail that climbs through forests and alpine meadows. After a more challenging uphill section, hikers reach the slopes of Monte Colonna and eventually the summit of Monte Paglione.
The effort of the final ascent is rewarded with breathtaking views over Lake Maggiore, Locarno, Brissago and its islands, and, on clear days, the majestic Monte Rosa massif.
The return journey generally follows the same route, with the option of a short detour to Monte Colonna, where another spectacular viewpoint overlooks Lake Maggiore stretching towards Piedmont. This hike is perfect for nature lovers seeking stunning scenery and an authentic mountain experience.
