Val Veddasca Tour

Distance: 28.6 km • Time: 3 hours • Difficult

From Lago Delio starts one of the most scenic routes in the northern area of the Province of Varese, surrounded by the alpine pastures of Val Veddasca, where the traditional Formagella del Luinese cheese is produced. The route climbs on paved road toward Passo Forcora, then turns onto a dirt track leading to Graglio, crossing the valley’s small villages as far as Biegno. From here, the trail reaches the Cangili area and the alpine hamlet of Monterecchio, at 1,350 meters above sea level, a panoramic viewpoint and the watershed point of the excursion.

The route continues along the ridge of Monte Sirti, featuring technical sections and spectacular views over Lake Maggiore and the Piedmontese and Swiss Alps. It circles around Monte Cadrigna through pastures and beech forests, reaching an exposed section where carrying the bike by hand is recommended. Back at Passo Forcora, the trail descends toward Alpe Quadra and then down to the hamlet of Monti di Pino, crossing birch and beech woods. Finally, a hillside trail leads back to Lago Delio, which is followed along the shoreline back to the starting area. A varied and panoramic loop through nature, tradition, and the silence of the high mountains.
