Cadrezzate – Osmate – Taino – Angera – Ranco – Cadrezzate
This easy route is the perfect way to see both Lake Maggiore and Lake Monate without having to cover too many miles. Start from Cadrezzate, on the western side of Lake Monate, and head towards Osmate. When you reach the old wash house on the side of the road in Osmate, turn right onto Via Roma and head towards Lentate. After Lentate follow the signs first for Taino, where there is a public park to the right of the town hall that is a great place to stop for a rest and admire Angera’s Borromeo Castle, Monte San Quirico overlooking Angera and Ranco, Alto Vergante and Monte Rosa. The road from Taino descends towards Lake Maggiore and the village of Angera by the southern part of Lake Maggiore; Angera has great views of Arona from the charming lakefront which is almost in the shadow of Borromeo Castle, which is well worth a visit. The road around Lake Maggiore then leads to Ranco where the lakefront offers fantastic views of the middle and top of the lake and across to Meina and Lesa on the opposite bank in Piedmont. From the lakefront take the road up into the village, turn onto Via Quassa and head towards Uponne. When you reach the roundabout follow the road to Capronno and then back to Cadrezzate.
