Monastero di Cairate
The Benedictine Monastery of Santa Maria Assunta was founded in 737 by Manigunda, a Lombard nobleman linked by the royal court of Pavia.
In the area overlooking the Olona, a necropolis with tombs and funerary buildings was set up and the first monastic community was built next to it. It was one of the first monistic settlements in the area that was included in the possessions of the bishop of Pavia.
