Biodiversity Walks

On the occasion of World Biodiversity Day on 22nd May, FAI is launching the new #FaiBiodiversity campaign. Saturday 20th May and Sunday 21st May 2023 will be an opportunity to discover biodiversity inside FAI properties: Villa Panza, Monastero di Torba, Villa Della Porta Bozzolo. 


VILLA AND PANZA COLLECTION, Varese
You can walk through the historic garden of Villa Panza accompanied by gardeners, beekeepers, scholars and experts.

 

Saturday 20th May

A day in the garden

Time: from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m

Visit by Carlo Chinetti, Villa Panza gardener. A fascinating account of the daily actions of care and maintenance of the Villa panza garden, with a look at sustainability and biodiversity. 

 

Sunday 21st May

Historic garden conservation and biodiversity

Time: 11:00 a.m. 

Visit by Emanuele Borio, FAI gardens and parks manager, will explore the villa's grounds with visitors to discover its secrets and the importance of biodiversity today.

The red squirrel: the king of the garden

Time: 3.00 p.m.  

Visit by Francesca Santicchia and Francesco Bisi, Uninsubria researchers.


MONASTERO DI TORBA, Gornate Olona

 

Sunday 21st May 

The richness of the Olona Valley river ecosystem 

Time: 10:30 a.m and 3:00 p.m.

The visit by Antea Franceschin, naturalist and AIGAE guide, will allow you to explore the RTO Park, discovering its three important watercourses: the Rile stream, the Tenore and the Olona river. The natural area is one of the RETE NATURA 2000 sites, conservation areas for habitats and species considered a priority by the European Union. The Fagnano Olona Park, under protection since 2008 for its biodiversity, will also be crossed.

Sunday 21st May 

The value of trees

Time:  3:00 p.m and 4:30 p.m.

Visit by Raffaele Orrù, landscape agronomist. The meeting will begin with a visit to the villa's park, whose botanical and tree heritage will serve as the starting point for a broader reflection on the evolution of the role of urban greenery and, above all, on how parks and gardens today can contribute to preserving biodiversity and generating ecosystem services useful to the community.
