Anello delle Castagne

Distance: 13 km • Time: 3 ore e 30 minuti • Medium difficulty

A scenic loop trail through chestnut forests, historical landmarks, and local legends, part of the “Green Ways of the Lakes.”

The Anello delle Castagne winds through the municipalities of Sesto Calende and Taino, offering a varied and captivating experience.

The route starts in San Vincenzo, where parking is available and where you can join the VVL-T1 trail. From the very beginning, the path immerses you in a peaceful natural setting.

The first highlight is the Sass de Preja Buia, a striking green serpentinite glacial boulder dating back to the last Ice Age, surrounded by fascinating local legends.

The trail continues through a dense chestnut forest, where the quiet atmosphere and natural scents enhance the experience. After a long stretch in the woods, you reach a paved road heading toward Taino.

Following the signs, you pass by the evocative Ex Polveriera di Taino, a large abandoned structure that was the site of an explosion during World War I and was later closed in the 1970s.

The trail then returns toward the lake, passing through the hamlets of Coquo and Lisanza, before completing the loop back in San Vincenzo.
