Rancio Valcuvia - Cunardo - no. 19

Distance: 3.3 km • Time: 1 ora • Easy

A pleasant hike through woodland and scenic viewpoints, perfect for discovering hidden corners rich in history at the foothills of Campo dei Fiori.

The route begins in the charming medieval village of Rancio Valcuvia, where, near a picnic area, the trail sets off heading north along the Valganna route.

You pass through Valle Ronc, where lush greenery and peaceful surroundings frame a lovely waterfall near the ruins of an old mill. From here, you easily reach the small village of Masciago Primo.

Continuing through woods and open clearings, heading north alongside the SP11 road, you arrive at Moniscione, home to the distinctive glacial boulder known as the Sass della Rossera, featuring ancient Celtic rock carvings.

The trail then leads toward Monte San Martino, offering beautiful views stretching from Luino to the upper Verbano area. Along the way, you’ll encounter parts of the historic Linea Cadorna, with remnants dating back to World War I.

Continuing north toward Cunardo, the path crosses Mondiscia before reaching the SP30 road. Here lies one of the highlights of the hike: the Orrido di Cunardo, a fascinating complex of karst caves. Just beyond, you arrive in the town of Cunardo, marking the end of the route.
