FAI Events

In October and November 2021, the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI), proposes a series of events dedicated to culture, art and nature ... all this in Varese (province).


Proposed events:

Villa Della Porta Bozzolo

  • Sunday 24 October at 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm: a sweet journey into the world of bees. The Villa comes alive with an event for young and old dedicated to the fascinating world of bees. An opportunity to discover, in the company of an expert beekeeper, the fundamental role that bees have for the ecosystem and how important they are not only for nature but also for man.

  • Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 November: Discover the garden. The winter camellia - a whole weekend dedicated to the most beautiful and elegant flower of autumn: the camellia.

Monastero di Torba:

  • Saturday 23 October: appointment with "History in the kitchen", where the public will have the opportunity to get to know this corner of the Middle Ages immersed in the woods of Varese in an original way.

We will start with a guided evening visit during which a brief history of the culinary traditions that have followed one another will be traced. Following, at 8.00 pm, ancient recipes will come to life and flavor thanks to the menu specially designed by the restaurant located inside the Bene and by Slow Food Condotta in the province of Varese: proposals that will delight visitors thanks to a careful choice of courses and best local products, respecting tradition and local specialties.

  • Sunday 24 October: "One place, many stories"- guided tour to get to know and retrace the many souls of Torba and in particular, its peasant life. A journey through the millennial history of the first FAI property, with a focus on the five centuries in which it was a farmhouse, to rediscover its events and traditions. A journey through art, but also an opportunity to trace a brief history of cuisine in Torba, through anecdotes, documents and "old-time" foods.

  • Sunday 24 October at 11.00: Nuvolario - an appointment for the little ones, who will be able to meet Sara Zambello and Susy Zanella, author and designer of Nuvolario, atlas of the clouds, published by Nomos Edizioni and finalist for the best popularization book at the Andersen Award 2021 A journey to discover the world of clouds, their origin, composition, classification, but also the many ways in which they have always been able to fascinate humanity by becoming protagonists of art, photography, literature, music.

  • Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 October: Special evening visit between history and legend - A special evening tour between history and legend to discover the Monastery of Torba in an unusual and suggestive way: scientific research, archeology, science, history, but also popular beliefs, oral tradition and folklore.

Hours: 5.00 pm -  6.30 pm - 8.00 pm

  • Monday 1st November: Monastero di Torba: the first FAI property, a heritage to be discovered - a special visit to the Monastery of Torba, the first FAI property, purchased and donated by Giulia Maria Crespi in 1977. The visit will focus in particular on the contribution and commitment of Renato Bazzoni - one of the founders of FAI.

  • Sunday 7 November at 2.30 pm: guided tour to learn about the profession of the anthropologist, between the history and the excavations of the Monastery. An unmissable appointment to discover the methods of anthropological research, but also anecdotes and curiosities that emerged from the Torba burials.

  • Sunday 21st November: The Monastery of Torba: one place, many stories - From a military outpost to a monastic seat and agricultural fund, today a property of the FAI and UNESCO heritage: the Monastery of Torba has a lot to tell! A special guided tour to discover the many souls of the site: a journey through the millenary history of the first FAI property.
