The Castles of Cannero emerge from the crystal clear waters of Lake Maggiore as fragments of a lost time, silent witnesses of battles and domains that have marked the history of the territory. Perched on two rocky islets that touch the surface of the lake, these remains of medieval fortresses retain their charm and historical importance. After centuries of neglect, an ambitious restoration and enhancement project has given voice back to these stones full of memory, transforming them into exceptional narrators of our past.
Today the Castles are reborn through an immersive experience that combines authentic historical research and technological innovation, inviting visitors to discover the secrets kept within their walls and immerse themselves in the thousand-year history that has shaped the shores of Lake Maggiore.

The Castles of Cannero represent the visible sign of a crucial moment in the history of the Borromeo family. Located on two rocky islets off the coast of Piedmont, in the north of Lake Maggiore and just a few steps from the Swiss border, they form a unique fortified complex: the main fortress and a small building that once housed prisons.
After years of in-depth studies and a complex restoration curated by Studio Simonetti Architettura, these ancient ruins have been returned to the public through a project that has managed to preserve their historical authenticity. A delicate balance between conservation and enhancement, where the fortress becomes "the museum of itself", telling its own history through the architecture and landscape that surrounds it.
