Located in the centre of Morazzone, a small village in the province of Varese, Casa Macchi is a typical 19th-century Lombard residence with all its furniture, paintings and silverware, now owned by FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano.
There is an unquestionable fascination in entering a world that once was, preserved down to its tiniest details, frozen in the moment of abandonment that seems almost furtive, sudden and inevitable, and that still smells of daily life, of the coffee pot left on the stove or the pipe left on the coffee table between the armchairs in the living room.
What is striking at Casa Macchi is the possibility of capturing and restoring authentic, traditional, simple life, so much so as to generate curiosity and empathy in the visitor, who will recognise objects and customs in a domestic landscape that belongs to its own tradition, capable of tickling the memory and kindling some antiquarian interest.
