- The Valganna valley, among swamps and caves: when the real cold arrives, many places in the Valganna Valley, situated just few miutes north from the Varese centre, become magic. If you're passing by during the winter, don't forget the ice skates: the torbiera di Ganna (a swamp close to the lake Ganna) becomes a natural rink. Don't miss also lake Ghirla and the caves in Valganna In the surrounding area: during the cold months they offer amazing natural shows.

- Go sledding on Alpe Forcora, the Punta di Mezzo and the sacred path of Sacro Monte di Varese: the first places that become white in winter and the best ones if you want to go sledding are the Alpe Forcora, close to the Swiss border, the punta di Mezzo, a mountain area situated along the sentiero 10 path that goes from the Osservatorio Schiaparelli to Forte di Orino and the sacred path which leads to the village of Santa Maria del Monte. Don't forget to run up there as soon as the snow begin to fall down!

- Enchanted winter at lake Maggiore: to stroll along the lakefront of Angera and Ranco during the late afternoon, among lights, scents and views which come out from the fog or which are enlighted by the winter light is a great way to recharge your mind. End the afternoon with an hot chocolate or an italian aperitivo in a local cafè.
