As one of the cleanest lakes in Italy, Lake Monate is perfect for swimming and water sports with plenty of beaches around the small towns of Travedona-Monate and Cadrezzate. Situated on the border between southern Switzerland and northern Italy, Lake Lugano, which is also known as Lake Ceresio, is a glacial lake in the canton of Ticino and the Provinces of Varese and Como.

It is the oldest pile-dwelling settlement in the Alpine Arc and, since 2011, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps.”
