Horse riding and a day at the races

Varese’s love of horses began 125 years ago when the first racetrack opened in the Casbeno area. The current racetrack, Ippodromo delle Bettole, opened in 1911 and is still operational today with a busy year-round race calendar. Although situated close to the city centre, the racetrack enjoys a leafy setting that offers a peaceful yet fun oasis of entertainment and the grandstands are a place where people come to socialise and watch the races. When Varese hosted the Road Cycling World Champions in 2008, the racetrack provided a thrilling venue for the finish and was always packed out.

And if you want to go horse riding, the Province of Varese has partnered up with Cavalli Varese, a consortium of horse-related businesses, to offer an exciting choice of rides and experiences for all the family. The countryside provides an endless supply of woods, tracks and fields set in stunning scenery with panoramic views to ensure a truly unique experience.
