The route starts in Porto Ceresio and follows the border trail to the hamlet of Cà del Monte. Just above the village, a characteristic wayside shrine marks the point where the route continues across the border into Switzerland.
After passing through the locality of Serpiano, the trail begins to gain elevation until reaching Sant'Umberto, in the Cassina area. From here, the final uphill section leads to the summit of Monte San Giorgio.
The summit offers breathtaking panoramic views, but the importance of Monte San Giorgio goes far beyond its scenery: the area is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to the presence of important fossil deposits dating back to the Middle Triassic.
An itinerary combining nature, panoramic views and geological heritage, crossing the border between Italy and Switzerland to reach a mountain of extraordinary importance.
