If you are traveling with your dog, the Lombardy lakes offer plenty of beaches and lakeside promenades where four-legged friends are welcome. Here is a practical guide organized by lake.
Lake Maggiore:
- In Maccagno, all the bathing beaches are accessible to dogs, as long as they are kept on a leash or wear a muzzle if allowed off-leash.
- In Brezzo di Bedero, all three bathing beaches are accessible to dogs.
- In Luino, the main town on the Lombard shore, you can enjoy walks along the lakeside promenade and visit the beaches with your dog, always on a leash.
- In Porto Valtravaglia, a town surrounded by the green Valtravaglia hills, dogs are allowed on the lakeside promenade and beaches, always on a leash. The only exception is the beach in front of Piazza Imbarcadero, where access is not allowed.
- In Sesto Calende – Lisanza, dogs are allowed both on the lakeside promenade and on the beaches, as long as they are kept on a leash.
- In Ispra, dogs are allowed on the non-equipped beaches and along the lakeside promenade, always on a leash.
- Between Angera and Ranco, the Nocciola beach is one of the most “free” spots: a green area, partly shaded, where dogs are allowed. However, access is steep and the beach is not equipped..

Lake Lugano (Ceresio)
In Porto Ceresio and Lavena Ponte Tresa, the lakeside promenade is perfect for a walk with your dog. Animals are also allowed on the beaches, but they must always be kept on a leash.
Lake Monate
Lake Monate is one of the most dog-friendly lakes in the area, offering several dedicated options for visitors with pets.
The “Brusa” walking path in Osmate is ideal for relaxing walks with your dog, always on a leash.
In Cadrezzate, the Lido La Playa (paid access) allows dogs on a leash, with the possibility for them to swim at no extra cost.
Also in Cadrezzate, the Larice Club (paid beach) offers dedicated areas for dogs to swim, with mandatory reservation.
In Travedona Monate, Dogs Beach (Via Mascagni) is a beach entirely dedicated to dogs.
Also in Travedona, the public beach allows dogs in the designated area.
The Spiaggia di Comabbio (formerly Spiaggia dei Preti, paid access) allows dogs from Monday to Friday, provided they are well-behaved and kept on a leash.
The Camomilla Beach Club (paid access) allows dogs only on weekdays, in designated areas, with leash requirements and responsibility for cleaning up after them. Dogs are not allowed on weekends or public holidays.
Lake Varese
Lake Varese is perfect for walks with your dog: the approximately 28 km cycling and walking path that circles the lake is fully accessible to pets.
The Lido di Bodio is also dog-friendly, as long as dogs are kept on a leash (and wear a muzzle if necessary).

Every year, the local health authority (ASL) carries out tests on bathing water quality. Always refer to the annual analysis for up-to-date bathing permissions.
Restrictions apply along the lakeside and on beaches, in compliance with general regulations regarding hygiene and public safety.
