Art and culture in Varese

A weekend break in Varese is an excellent opportunity to explore the many museums throughout the province.

A must-visit treat for children is Volandia, a museum created in the renovated workshops of the Caproni aeronautical company in Malpensa which opened in 1910. This unforgettable trip offers a glimpse into aeronautical and aerospace history with every kind of aircraft. The Ogliari Museum of Transport was also recently opened within the grounds of Volandia: steam and electric engines, trams, buses, trolleybuses, funicular carriages, horse-drawn carriages and other means of transport now have a new lease of life in the aviation museum and park which is set become a unique destination for all fans of transport history.

There are also many museums for adults to visit with highlights including the Museum of Masnago Castle, the Museum of Ceramic Design, set on the banks of Lake Maggiore, and the Doll and Toy Museum in Angera’s Borromeo Castle, as well as plenty of exhibitions throughout the province.
