CARNIVAL 2023

Floats, masks and lots of fun are the main characteristics to celebrate Carnival day in the province of Varese from February 18 to 25, 2023.

Below are the scheduled events!


PORTO CERESIO

 

  • The 27th edition of the Kids' Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, at the school gym starting at 3 p.m.
  • On Sunday, February 19, 2023, on the other hand, from 2 p.m. the city of Porto Ceresio offers the 43rd edition of the Ceresino Carnival. The celebration will begin with the coronation of King Gigio and his Queen, the two characters who will traditionally head the parade of floats and groups. The parade will start from Bertolla Street and continue through the streets of the city, while a masked party accompanied by appetizer and DJ set will be held at 5 p.m. in Bossi Square.

 


VARESE

  • The week of Carnival in Varese will begin on Saturday, February 18, at 3 p.m. with a parade of historic cars. Afterwards, at 3:30 p.m., there will be a ceremony the Mayor will hand over the keys of the city to King Bosino at Palazzo Estense.
  • On Thursday, February 23, however, there will be the usual Carnival events at the Anaconda disabled day care center at 2:30 p.m. and at the Del Ponte Hospital at 4 p.m.
  • Finally, the 30th Bosino Carnival will be held on Saturday, February 25, at 2:30 p.m. Masked groups and floats will parade through the streets, starting from Sacco Street. The celebration will end at Monte Grappa Square with the King Bosino's speech and the awards ceremony for the winning floats and groups at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the Mascherina d'Oro online contest will also be announced.

BUSTO ARSIZIO

  • On Sunday, February 18, at 12 pm, the mayor of the City of Busto Arsizio will hand over the keys of the city to the typical masks Tarlisu and Bumbasina. The event will be held at Vittorio Emanuele II Square and will be accompanied by the traditional Tarlisu speech. 
  • This edition also celebrates 40 years since the proclamation of Busto's mask, Tarlisu. To mark this anniversary, from February 19 to March 19 it will be possible to visit the exhibition "Tarlisu. Identity of a Textile City" at the Busto Arsizio Textile Museum, during the opening days and hours of the museum. In addition, a guided tour at 5 pm is scheduled for Friday, February 24, by the museum curator. 
  • The Museum Education Service has organized a number of workshops for children from 4 to 12 years old in the Museum's Twin Room. The first one will be on February 23 from 3 pm to 4:30 pm, while the second one will be held on February 24 from 3pm to 4:30 pm.    
  • The traditional Carnival parade will return on Saturday, February 25, with floats and folk groups walking through the streets of the city, starting from Via Zappellini at 2:30 pm.

MALNATE

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, there will be the big Carnival scavenger hunt entitled "Looking for the Legends of Malnate". The event, which requires to be disguised, will include various stops with games and activities throughout the city. At the end, it will be possible to watch a performance by flag-wavers and musicians, in conjunction with medieval historical re-enactments.     


ISPRA

On Sunday, February 19, the Proloco of Ispra, in collaboration with the municipality, is organizing a parade through the streets of downtown at 2:30 p.m. to celebrate the 2023 Carnival.


CASTIGLIONE OLONA

  • On Sunday, February 19, the Municipality of Castiglione Olona invites all citizens to participate to the "Carnival of Heroes in Castiglione Olona", organized with the collaboration of the Pro Loco of Castiglione Olona. At 2 p.m., the Oratorio di San Luigi (in Via Verdi) will be the starting point of the traditional masked parade that will walk through the streets of the town.There will also be music, games and entertainment. At the arrival it will be held an award ceremony for the best masks. The fun will continue with tasty chiacchiere and hot drinks.

In case of bad weather, the parade will be postponed to Saturday, February 25, 2023.


GALLARATE

  • On Thursday, February 23 at Asilo Ponti, from 11 a.m., the mayor will hand over the keys of the city to King Risotto, announcing the start of the celebrations for the Carnival.
  • The traditional GallCarnaval returns on Saturday, February 25, 2023. The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Freedom Square with a puppet show for children entitled "The Carnival Masks". Later, from 3:30 p.m., it will be possible to admire the wonderful floats that will parade throughout the streets of the city.

SOMMA LOMBARDO 

On Saturday, February 25 from 2 p.m. there will be the traditional Sommese Carnival. The program includes the typical parade through the city streets and a colorful masked party in Ermes Visconti Square.
