From 31 July to 2 August 2026, Varese will host the European Rowing Championships, one of the most prestigious events on the international rowing calendar. More than 500 athletes from over 30 countries will compete on the waters of Lake Varese at the Schiranna regatta course in the Senior, Lightweight and Para Rowing categories.

The event once again confirms Varese and Italy as leading destinations for European rowing, with three days of racing that will award the continental titles, complemented by a rich programme of activities for the city and its visitors.

One of the highlights of the 2026 edition will be the Euro Rowing Village in Piazza Monte Grappa, open from 29 July to 2 August. The village will feature a giant screen broadcasting the Opening Ceremony and all championship races live, as well as an area dedicated to rowing ergometers managed by Canottieri Varese, where residents and visitors will have the opportunity to try rowing for themselves.

The programme also includes a variety of promotional and community sports initiatives. On Wednesday, 29 July, Pallacanestro Varese will host a promotional area and season ticket campaign, alongside the live event “Rowing & Food”. On Thursday, 30 July, the spotlight will turn to Mastini Hockey Varese, together with the live broadcast of the official Opening Ceremony. On Friday, 31 July, the village will host dedicated promotional spaces for EcoRun Varese 2027 and the major cycling events organised by the Alfredo Binda Cycling Society.

Sustainability will also play a key role thanks to the partnership with Acinque. On Saturday, 1 August, and Sunday, 2 August, visitors will be able to take part in the “Ride with Acinque” initiative, using special bicycles that generate clean energy through pedalling.

The Fan Zone at Schiranna will further enhance the atmosphere throughout the Championships with entertainment and social activities. Following the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, 30 July, a DJ set will continue until 10:00 pm, while live music performances are scheduled for the evenings of Friday, 31 July, and Saturday, 1 August. Street food stands will be available throughout the event, opening from the afternoon of 30 July and operating throughout the following race days.

Varese is therefore preparing to experience a week of outstanding international sport, combining elite competition, community engagement, tourism and the promotion of the local area, turning the 2026 European Rowing Championships into a true celebration for the entire city.
