FULL PROGRAMME

Sunday 25 February 2024 - Colour, Light, Perception

Dan Flavin, Robert Irwin, James Turrell, Maria Nordman

Through an encounter with some installations of minimal and environmental art, the special guided tour proposes an itinerary designed to explore three central themes of Giuseppe Panza di Biumo's research: colour, light and perception.
In fact, the installations by Dan Flavin, Robert Irwin, James Turrell and Maria Nordman will be a natural space to verify optical phenomena such as simultaneous contrast, visual ambiguities and models of colour representation, as well as an opportunity to explore the functioning of our perceptual mechanisms.

Sunday 31 March 2024 - Once upon a time Villa Panza, the history of a house

A special guided tour to retrace, like a journey through time, the history of Villa Panza and the families that have lived here. Through historical images and the narration of the rooms through the centuries, we will explore the Villa in the footsteps of the Orrigoni family, we will learn the story of the Marquis Menafoglio and his brilliant intuitions, and we will relive the pomp, balls and banquets of the Litta era.

Finally, we will discover how the Panza family transformed and lived in the various parts of the villa and how Giuseppe Panza transformed the "Casa del Biumo" into the place that today houses one of the world's most famous collections of contemporary art.

Sunday 7 April 2024 - The garden tells a story

A visit to learn more about the evolution of the Villa Panza garden, from a historical and landscape point of view, with the addition of botanical curiosities.

Thursday 25 April 2024 - 'Between earth and sky', art, architecture and nature

Of the garden of Villa Panza, overlooking the city of Varese and extending over three hectares on Colle di Biumo, Giuseppe Panza said: "an enormous green space, suspended between earth and sky, from which the horizon is visible in all directions".

An element of connection between natural and urban space, the garden is designed in perfect dialogue with the villa so that the landscape becomes a natural continuation and at the same time the very essence of the architecture. Today, the garden of Villa Panza is enriched with numerous contemporary art installations, including Twelve Part Vertical Pipe Piece by J. Highstein, a tribute to the collector created in 2023 for the centenary of his birth.
The special guided tour offers a thematic itinerary, between the interior and exterior of the villa, to explore the almost osmotic relationship between architecture, nature and art.
