Varese, land of experiences

The Flaminio Bertoni Museum

The Flaminio Bertoni Museum, inaugurated in 2007 and dedicated to the figure of car designer Flaminio Bertoni, is now located in a pavilion of the Parco e Museo del Volo - Volandia in Somma Lombardo (VA).

The young Bertoni began his career as an apprentice in the Carrozzeria Macchi, only five years later he moved to France, urged on by some French technicians, who had already sensed his creativity. In France Flaminio Bertoni met André Citroën to whom he presented his patent for the pneumatic window lift. However, after gaining experience at Citroën, a more mature Bertoni decided to return home and try to open his own design studio. Unfortunately, however, his ideas proved too advanced for the Italian entrepreneurs of the time, so he returned to France. Here, Flaminio Bertoni returned to Citroën and began designing what would later become world-famous cars such as the Traction Avant, for which he also produced the scale car mock-up, the DS and the 2CV.

The exhibition allows the public to get to know the figure of Flaminio Bertoni as a well-rounded artist, exhibiting both the artist's sketches and sculptures as well as vintage cars.
