Until Sunday 30^th June 2024 the Fondazione Volandia - Parco e Museo del Volo in Somma Lombardo will host the exhibition 'The Epic of Flight 1903-2023'. 120 artists are involved in celebrating one hundred and twenty years of flight, an exhibition of paintings, graphic works, photographs and sculptures inspired by flying machines.

120 years have passed since 17^th December 1903 when the American engineers and inventors, brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright, successfully took off a motorised heavier-than-air machine with a pilot on board. Furthermore, a century has passed since the birth of the Italian Aeronautica militare, established on 28^th March 1923 as an autonomous and independent force with respect to the Navy and the Army. Between the two events, the flight industry developed in the province of Varese.

The exhibition was patronised by the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the Region of Lombardy, the Province of Varese and the municipalities of Varese, Gallarate, Somma Lombardo and Sesto Calende, as well as the daily newspaper La Prealpina, Rete55, the Chamber of Commerce, Confindustria Varese, Insubria University, Adi (Association for Industrial Design), the Varesotto Community Foundation, the Varese Historical Society and the 'Angelo Frattini' Art School.
